Practitioner - John Duong is an acupuncturist licensed in the states of California and Maryland. He also holds a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine (Dipl. O.M.) certification from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). John received his Bachelor of Science degree in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior from the University of California at Davis. He received a four year Masters of Science degree (M.S.T.C.M) from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine located in San Francisco, California. His specialties include pain, internal medicine and the use of Chinese herbs in treating illnesses. John is fluent in both Chinese and English.
Traditional Chinese Medicine and Treatment Modalities - Acupuncture is a popular method of treatment used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to treat a wide array of diseases and conditions. Other modalities include herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping, qi gong, and tui na. TCM is the ancient medical system that the Chinese have used for thousands of years before the advent of what we now call modern science. It assists the patient in recovery by restoring the natural balance of the body that becomes disturbed or upset by injury and/or illness.
Conditions Treated - Chinese Medicine can treat many illnesses and conditions through these different modalities. Depending on the complexity of the issues, some modalities will be combined such as acupuncture and herbs or acupuncture and cupping, etc. Some of the common conditions treated are:
